Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
