The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song
This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.
This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have a few changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
