The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
