The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the popular series reaching its finale—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It feels like force fed hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Will the showrunner Know the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a decent plan for a superior concept. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
